I herd that you had to boil all the water you make the formula with. I have never herd this before. My little one is almost 7 weeks and i have yet to boil the water. I haven't noticed a problem with her either but alot of gas. We used bottled spring water for the first 3 weeks but then we ran out and now we are using tap water but we live in Jersey and we should have the cleanest water in the US or pretty close. Whats the deal with the boiling of water? If she isnt getting sick do i have to boil the water??

  1. No, you don't have to do it.  Some mothers do it for their children, but unless they live in an area with well water that hasn't been tested or is known to have problems, it's fine.

Honestly, I think it's a waste of time.

  2. I have a three month old daughter and I still boil water for making formula. My Dr told me it is not necessary. I can use filtered water but strongly suggested not to use tap water.

  3. NEVER boil the water... nutrients you need in water will evaporate when you boil it and raise the risk of bacteria when you add the formula.

  4. I don't boil the water for my sons formula.I haven't either since he was about 3 weeks old.I decided that it was too much of a hassle.Baby is just fine either way.If it isn't making her sick and she is fine, don't worry about it..:)

  5. I hope your not serious? Everyone knows you have to boil water. Do you realize how bad water is straight from the tap??

My kids are 3 and 4, and still I give them filtered water. Giving them tap water is like giving them a cup if bleach. Well aussie water is anyways

  6. I never boiled water for either of my daughters. We used a pur water filter on the tap because I preferred the taste of it filtered.

  7. I boiled my daughters water for the first few weeks, then I stopped because it was too much hassle.  I'd suggest getting a pur water filter for your tap just to be safe.  If she isn't having any issues by now she should be fine, but filtered is better than nothing IMO.

  8. The danger is if the water does have an outbreak of amoebas of some other nasty germs. You will get diarrhoea (yahoo insists this is how diarhea is spelled)  from this and diarrhoea/vomiting in a little tiny baby is VERY dangerous. What you can do is boil up a big pot and then mix a few days worth of formula ahead of time in a big container and keep it in the fridge. Makes it a whole bunch easier on you.

  9. It even says on the can of formula to use pre-boiled water (boil a pot of water and let it cool for 15-30 min). Boiling the water sterilizes it from bacteria. Im sure bottled water is fine just as long as its not from a BPA plastic bottle. I have been boiling all my water when I am making formula and my daughter is 3 months. They recommend sterilization until 6 months I think- but it may be longer.

  10. I don't think the gas problem is from the unboiled water.  The instructions on the packaging isn't set in stone.  It's a way for the company to avoid potential lawsuits if someone's baby gets sick and they decide to sue.

I boil water anyway but I just boil a full kettle in the morning and put it in a thermos that's marked as boiled water only.

  11. If you're concerned, try buying 'Nursery Water'. You can get it at Walmart pretty inexpensively.

I didn't boil any of the water for my daughter.  We have filtered water in a separate tap & when travelling, I used the nursery water.

  12. My doctor told us to use our tap water.  I think it depends a lot on the water quality in your area.  I know of no one in our area that boils their water for their baby.  It is supposed to make it "sterile."

  13. we have well water and I have never boiled the water for either of my sons!

  14. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE PURIFIED WATER HENSE BOILING.. IF THERE IS NO TIME TO BOIL YOU CAN BUY GALLONS OF NURSERY WATER (PINK CAP AND LABEL) AT ANY GROCERY STORE, WALMART, TARGET.. THERE ARE SO MANY IMPURITIES IN TAP WATER THAT ARE WAY TO HARSH FOR SUCH A NEW IMMUNE SYSTEM..

  15. you're suppose to boil water up to 4 months old.

  16. I NEVER boil my water and my son is 4 months.. its all how different people do different things if not boiling works for you then dont change it..

  17. It's usually the older generation that insists on this.  I used to boil water in a kettle once a day and use it after it cooled off, throughout the day.  My grandmother in law flipped and started buying "nursery water" that she insisted I boil each time I made bottles, then refrigerate bottles.  I never did since I was also breastfeeding.  I stop boiling water altogether at around 5 or 6 months.  My daughter wasn't sick until she was almost 2.
