Boise State head coach fine with drop in rankings
Boise State Broncos head coach Chris Petersen says he is not concerned about his clubs recent drop in the rankings from third to fourth.
The Oregon Ducks leapfrogged the Broncos with their 53-31 win over the Stanford Cardinals, despite the fact that the Broncos routed the New Mexico State Aggies 59-0. According to AP Top 25 voters the Ducks victory over a ninth ranked side was more impressive.
The Broncos consistently have a problem with remaining in the conversation when teams enter conference play, as their current conference, WAC, is far less competitive than the PAC-10, where the Ducks play.
Nevertheless, Petersen says Broncos supporters should not be concerned about the recent drop, stating. “To me, wait until December and then it’s news whether this conversation is even worth having. As we all know, there is going to be a lot of things happening
between now and then.”
Although Petersen does not seem concerned, the Broncos are once again likely to be victims of their weak schedule and the lack competition in the WAC. Boise State has games remaining against teams such as Toledo, San Jose State, Hawaii and Fresno State, none
of which are likely to help their ranking. The squad’s only hope of grabbing the national spot light will come in a game against #21 Nevada at the end of November. Nevertheless, the Broncos will have to hope that the Wolf Pack is still ranked by the time they
meet at the end of the season.
Moreover, Petersen has never been one to run the score up on weaker opponents. In the past three weeks the Broncos have posted 50 points twice. In both instances Petersen elected to take out several of the club’s starters and replace them with back ups.
The Broncos next game comes against Toledo in week six.
