Bojana Bobusic enters the Australian Open main draw with a wild card – Tennis News
Australian youngster, Bojana Bobusic, earned a wildcard entry to the season-opening Grand Slam tournament of 2013 for the second successive year. She cleared the wildcard play-offs comprehensively and received a spot in the opening
128-player field of the Australian Open at the glorious Melbourne Park.
The 25-year-old Aussie devastated Monique Adamczak in a convincing straight-sets encounter, settling the final score line to 6-1, 6-3, to yield the privilege of playing into the main rounds of the grand event. Bobusic was in sublime
form throughout the wildcard play-offs, outsmarting the likes of the last year’s qualifier, Ashley Barty, and the other talented Aussie contender, Arina Rodionova, en route to the final match. She carried on with her winning impetus in the big game and dumped
Adamczak in style.
"I'm really happy with the way I played and really happy with the win," said Bobusic. "Obviously all week I've been setting goals and objectives and things I wanted to do well in the match and then the rest would take care of itself.
So I think I just did that really well today and was fortunate enough to get the win. She (Adamczak) actually served a couple of really good games but I served it out at 4-3 which really helped the momentum. I'm very excited - I've still got some work to do
but one step at a time."
Bobusic took off her 2012 WTA Tour campaign from Brisbane and suffered an opening round loss at the hands of Nina Bratchikova. She had another early exit at the WTA event in Hobart before receiving a wildcard entry to the Australian
Open. She was delighted to play the main round of the Grand Slam tournament but to her bad luck, she faced the current world number five, Angelique Kerber of Germany, in her very first match. Bobusic was brutally manhandled by Kerber, who registered a 6-1,
6-3, victory to crush her hopes of progress at the Grand Slam event at her home soil.
The Aussie contestant is more determined for the upcoming mega event and aims to bag some crucial victories before falling out of it.
