Bojana Jovanovski beats Dinah Pfizenmaier to clear round one – Tashkent Open 2012
World number 64, Bojana Jovanovski, saved an upset on the eve of Tuesday to reach the second round of the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan. She was up against the 126th ranked German age-fellow, Dinah Pfizenmaier; won the
first set 6-2 but failed to carry the moment into the second set losing it 2-6. However, the comeback in the final set was emphatic that helped her to win it 6-4.
The 20-year-old commenced the match with a serve hold; had her opponent under control in the second game but failed to convert to breakpoint and an opportunity to take an early lead. However, she didn’t have to wait long before
the first breakpoint came. It was the third game of the encounter that brought to be the first breakthrough for the sixth seed Serb.
Pfizenmaier failed to respond to the onslaught and lost another breakpoint in the process; going down to a trail of 1-5. She was all set to lose the opening set in just seven games into play but some dignity was restored with a
breakpoint that decreased the trail to 2-5. However, she could just win a single point on her serve before dropping the third breakpoint on the trot.
The 20-year-old German too revenge of the first set battering; bamboozled the Serb professional with three back-to-back breakpoints and didn’t commit a single mistake on her serves. She was cruising along at a score of 5-0 and
almost registered a bagel but Jovanovski fought back to restore some respect; won two games in a row courtesy a breakpoint but couldn’t hang on further.
In the final set, an early trade of breakpoints that kept the scores together but not before the momentum swung both ways. No drama was witnessed until the end of the ninth game. The sixth seed Serb was under the cosh in the final
third serve game but fought back from 15:30 to take hold of the game and transferred the stress on her rival.
The youngster couldn’t handle pressure and lost the match after a battle of an hour and 54 minutes.
