Bojana Jovanovski outshines Valeria Solovieva in the second round – Baku Cup 2012
World number 97, Bojana Jovanovski, outclassed the 19-year-old Russian player, Valeria Solovieva, in the second round of the Baku Cup on the eve of Wednesday. It was easy straight sets 6-2, 6-3 for the Serb starlet into the quarter-finals
of the tournament.
Jovanovski started the proceedings with a tight serve hold and squandered two breakpoints in the following game before converting the third one in her favour to lead the scores 2-0.
However, the lead wasn’t held for long as the Russian teen broke serve back to diminish the trail and held her serve to tie the scores at 2-2.
The Serb fifth seed held her serve in the following game after a bit of scare and broke serve comprehensively in the following game to repost the lead of two games.
Serb 20-year-old held her serve in the following game at 40:15 and Solovieva couldn’t hold her opponent from winning another breakthrough in the eighth game that rounded off the opening set proceedings.
World number 225, Solovieva, started the second set in dismal fashion as well. She dropped two breakpoints on the trot to allow her rival in building a monumental lead of 0-4.
However, she fought her way back into the contest with a breakthrough in the following game but her cameo was soon ended by the Serb who broke serve back in the sixth game to reinstate the lead of four games.
Jovanovski was on the verge of winning the match but the 19-year-old Russian held her a bit long than expected by winning a breakpoint in a ‘do or die’ game. The Russian held her serve in the following game and lowered the trail
to 3-5.
However, the Serb was good enough to capitalize on the second opportunity and successfully served for the match to book a spot in the last eight of the tournament.
Next contestant for the Serb booming starlet is her compatriot, Aleksandra Krunic, who reached the main round of the contest through a qualifying round and stunned the fourth seed Czech star, Andrea Hlavackova, in the opening round
before stamping her authority against the Spanish professional, Laura Pous-Tio.
