Bojana Jovanovski trounces Stefanie Voegele in round one – e-Boks Open 2012
Serbian starlet, Bojana Jovanovski, eased past the Swiss competitor, Stefanie Voegele, in straight sets at the e-Boks Open 2012, a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International level event held in Copenhagen, Denmark. She jolted down a 6-3, 6-4 victory
against the 22-year-old to progress into the round of 16 on Wednesday.
Jovanovski showed exceptional skills at this indoor hard court event and outclassed the world number 121 in their second meeting. After earning the limelight at this 66-minute duel, the Serb not only avenged her loss at the Apia International Sydney earlier
this circuit but also levelled the head-to-head series by 1-1 against Voegele.
Ranked 106th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Jovanovski made a sluggish start at the Farum Arena and suffered the first blow in the third game to trail at 1-2. However, she quickly counterattacked and snatched her break back in the very next game.
The Serb then held her composure and not only plucked remaining serves but capitalised on another break chance in the eighth game, subsequently claiming the opener with a 6-3 success.
The 20-year-old kept momentum rolling in the follow-up set and held her serve in the second game to tie the scores at 1-1. She maintained consistency in her game and slid remaining serves through exceptional defensive skills. Jovanovski got the breakthrough
in the fifth game and bagged the set with a 6-4 win.
All in all, the Serb clobbered a better first serve share and brilliantly clinched 30 out of 43 points to earn the spotlight. She brushed off four out of five breakpoints she faced and cashed in three out of five break chances to prevail.
Next challenge for the Serbian youngster is the fourth seed, Monica Niculescu, who trashed Russia’s Valeria Savinykh in straight sets to set-up this battle.
The third seed, Jelena Jankovic, also stole the show later that day. The former world number one brushed off four out of nine breakpoints she faced and broke her rival’s serve six times to manipulate a 6-4, 7-6(8) success.
She will square off against the Russian wild card entrant, Yulia Putintseva, who stomped over Karen Barbat in straight sets to progress.
