At stumps on Thursday, on the first day of three-day match between Boland Under-19s and South Western Districts Under-19s, the latter lost three wickets as they ended the day with six runs on the board in their first innings after they got smashed for 319 runs by Boland, at Boland Park, Worcester.
South Western Districts Under-19s invited Boland to bat first after they won the toss, as they were looking to bowl-out their opposition on a track that was expected to help the bowlers.
However, the decision back fired as Boland got off to a blazing start of 80 runs with openers RCG Fortuin and AG du Toit punishing the bowlers at will.
SWD’s Roelofse drew first blood when he shattered RCG Fortuin’s stumps after the batsman had scored 28 runs.
Toit and DV Stofberg then led the side to 98 before this partnership also met its end on the demise of du Toit who, after smacking 62 runs, was caught by Oberholzer off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Horst.
This was the time when the fielding side needed to grab a few more wickets to make a staggering comeback in the match, however, the batting duo of DV Stofberg and HHJ Kotze denied this from happening, as the batsmen bulldozed the bowlers all around the park, leaving the fielders with no option but to chase after the ball everywhere.
Finally with 182 runs on the scoreboard, the pair played its last as Kotze lost his wicket after belting 53 runs. Stofberg, then perished with 36 runs to his name.
The demise of CM Louw for nil put considerable pressure on the batting side, but the partnership between DTI Maree and skipper JN Frylinck, halted the bowling onslaught, as they took the score to 236. After scoring 26 runs, JN Frylinck was trapped in front of stumps by Roelofse.
Maree’s 79-run knock played a vital role in helping Boland declare their first innings on a stiff score of 319.
JN Frylinck then annihilated SWD U19 by grabbing the wickets of their top three batsmen before the end of the day’s play.
