On Friday, Boland Under-19s secured an emphatic victory by ten wickets against South Western Districts Under-19s in the three-day match that was played at Boland Park, Worcester.
The first day of play was phenomenal as both sides gave a belligerent performance with Boland dominating their opposition right from the get go.
The hosts had gained an upper hand by hammering a first innings score of 319 with most of the day remaining. Nonetheless, they were bowled-out and forced to field, but this did not change their plans as the bowlers made life of the South Western Districts Under-19s batsmen extremely difficult, where they were restricted to 89 runs and were forced to follow on.
From Boland, JN Frylinck, was outstanding as he left the batting side paralyzed by nabbing five wickets.
After a devastating first innings, South Western Districts Under-19s ended the first day of play with just five runs on the board without any loss and needed to show some resolve on Friday to save the match.
However, today was equally disappointing as both openers were neutralized by the time their side had amassed 23 runs on the board.
Middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jon-Lewis-c1726 Heunis and R Stander then needed to regroup and rebuild the innings. The batsmen showed some potential against a very aggressive bowling attack as they took the score to 52 before the latter perished with 25 runs to his name.
MDJ Visagie then joined the party and together with Heunis, took the score to 74 before he lost his wicket after smashing 22 runs off 16 deliveries.
Fortuin then made inroads by trapping Heunis in front of stumps with the batsman having scored 26 runs. At the time of this wicket, SWD U19s had posted 105 on the scoreboard.
Later with PS Gouws hammering 43 and W Oberholzer staying unbeaten on 70, the side finished with 234 on the board, giving Boland a target of five runs to win.
The home side reached the target in nine minutes without losing a wicket.
