Boland v Western Province - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition – Day 1 – Live Score and Update
Western Province had a spectacular opening day of the three-day CSA Provincial competition against Boland, where while batting first, they hammered a mammoth score of 321 runs for eight at Boland Park, Paarl, December 13.
It was certainly a great day to bat, as Western openers MC Kleinveldt and SP Gomes dominated the opposition right from the get go, leading their side towards 178 runs.
With this massive opening stand, the visitors had gained an advantage against the hosts, and now needed to continue this momentum to leave the fielders in tears.
Finally, the lethal partnership was dismantled on the dismissal of Kleinveldt, who was removed by Raubenheimer after he had clobbered an impressive knock of 83.
K Schreuder, then came in at number-three as the batting side sought to continue the onslaught, however, their plans were cut short when SP Gomes was run out after crafting a handsome knock of 84 runs.
With both openers back in the pavilion, it was time for the middle-order to regroup and rebuild the innings; on the other hand, it was imperative for Boland to keep getting wickets to prevent the batsmen from settling in.
With 214 on the board, Western Province suffered the demise of their third wicket when K Schreuder was clean-bowled by Raubenheimer after scoring nine runs.
Before Boland could gloat for a bit longer, their confidence was shattered by MQ Adams and SA Engelbrecht as the two batsmen punished the bowlers without remorse.
The tactic was working for Western Province, knowing quite well that Boland is a team which cannot be kept down for too long.
However, today was difficult for the hosts as they found it quite hard to bounce back to destroy Western Province’s batting contingent.
Finally after conceding 279 runs, Boland struck for the fourth time when Raubenheimer trapped MQ Adams right in front of stumps after the batsman had smacked 55 runs.
Western Province then raced to 304 before losing BG Barnes, who fell after scoring only two runs.
Their weak tail was now exposed, which was given a tough time, and the fielding squad then grabbed the prized wicket of SA Engelbrecht, who succumbed after bolstering 56.
With S Simetu on seven and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jai-Prakash-Yadav-c65330 Bothma one, Western Province ended the day in a dominating position.
