Bolton Boss Owen Coyle says Gary Cahill is destined for big things; Liverpool chasing Gokhan Inler
Gary Cahill, one of the most promising young defenders in the English game, has been tipped by his manager Owen Coyle to achieve big things.
The 24-year old Bolton Wanderers defender came to Reebok Stadium after a 5 million pound move from Aston Villa. Cahill played his first international match for England in the Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria.
Coyle said that even though Cahill was overlooked by Capello in the next game against Switzerland, he is destined to become one of the best in England and would be making his way to a bigger English club.
The Bolton manager said that Cahill has been growing as a player every season, and he thinks that soon he would be snapped up by one of the bigger clubs in England. He said that he would hate to lose such an excellent player, but would not stand in the way of his player’s growth.
Coyle said that whenever Cahill leaves, he would leave a big hole in the Bolton defence, but it would be great for him to take the next step, and the club would be happy to help him in every possible way.
The manager went on to say that he is happy with every player in the team who puts in 100% on the pitch, and that is all he wants, and if a player is destined for a future away from the club, he would have no qualms in letting that player go.
"There will come a day, and I hope it doesn't come in January, that Gary Cahill will probably outgrow the football club, given the finance involved in it.
"I have always said I have no qualms with anyone, as long as they pour their heart and soul into their job.
"And if that's the case, then he would go with my blessing," said Coyle, while talking to the Bolton News.
Meanwhile, Gokhan Inler, the captain of Switzerland, may be on his way to Liverpool. The Merseyside club has now joined the race to sign Inler after Italian club Napoli had been pursuing the midfielder.
Liverpool sold Javier Mascherano during the summer transfer window, and has brought in Christian Poulsen and Raul Meireles as replacements. However, the manager said that Inler could add some more quality in the centre of midfield for them.
Liverpool would have to fight hard with Napoli if they are to sign the 26-year old. The Udinese player is believed to be in talks with Liverpool’s Europa League opponents, but nothing significant has been reported as yet.
Dino Lamberti, Inler’s agent, said that Liverpool have approached him while Napoli have been inquiring about him for a while now. He said that January may be a possibility, but there is a lot of time before that and nothing can be said for sure for now.
Dino said that Udinese for now have not shown willingness to sell him, and they have not even set a price for the midfielder. The agent went on to say that if the Italian club continues to do well in the league, the Swiss captain may decide to stay. However, if the season does not go as planned, then he may decide to leave in the winter transfer window. He reiterated that Udinese would not let him go cheap and have said that whatever price they set on him would have to be met. Therefore, Napoli may not be the best option for him. He said that Inler would not like to move within Italy and if he does exit the club, Liverpool may be his more likely destination.
Inler arrived in Italy in 2007 and has made 105 appearances for Udinese, scoring two goals.
