Bolton Manager Sam Allardyce wants to be an International Manager in 2-3 Years
Sam Allardyce, current manager of the Premier League side, Blackburn Rovers, has expressed his wish to move into international football after a couple of years. Allardyce has spent over two decades managing club football but following heart surgery in 2009, he has announce that international football provides a much more suitable option for him and so that is where he wants to go next.
Last season under Sam Allardyce, Blackburn finished strongly defeating Aston Villa on the last day of the season away from home to secure 10th place in the Premier League. Allardyce also helped take the Rovers very close to a League Cup success, as they reached the Semi Final of the competition, losing out to Aston Villa eventually.
When the England management post was vacant in 2006, Allardyce was one of the managers who were interviewed but just like two years previously, he did not manage to get the job and Fabio Capello was appointed instead. Since then Allardyce has been critical of the English FA in looking abroad for a manager when there are so many options available within the country.
The Blackburn Manager, however, has not let the disappointment of failing to get the England job get in his way and is determined to find a job in the international arena. He has also maintained that there is some room for improvement with the project at Blackburn and over time he hopes to take the club from an occasional mid-table team to one that finishes consistently in the top half and close to the European places.
Allardyce started his management career with West Bromwich Albion and went on to coach Limerick, Preston North End, Blackpool and Notts County in quick succession before settling down with Bolton Wanderers. The Englishman spent eight years at the club during which he guided them to a promotion to the highest level of English football, the Premier League, and went further to establish them as a strong team in the league. Under his reign, Bolton finished as high as sixth and were routinely involved in a battle for the European places, something which the Bolton fans were new to.
After the 2006/2007 Premier League season, Allardyce decided it was time for a new challenge and moved to Newcastle but the move did not work out for him, as he was sacked after only being in charge until Christmas after the club suffered a series of defeats, despite signing a number of players during the summer transfer window.
After spending a short period out of football, Allardyce came back into club management with Blackburn Rovers. The Lancashire club were struggling to stay in the Premier League and Allardyce was given the task of maintaining their Premier League status which he managed during his first season with the club.
Sam Allardyce is renowned for his use of modern training methods and relying on a scientific approach when it comes to football management, something which is likely to make him successful no matter where he chooses to go and it is likely to help him achieve his objective of finding a job in International Football.
