http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 will give him the chance to cement his place in the starting XI.
It was the 24-year-old who scored against League Two side Macclesfield in the third round of the FA Cup to give his side a 2-2 draw. If Wheater’s late header had not found its way in the back of the net then the Trotters would have faced an embarrassing
defeat.
With Cahill’s departure to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Wheater would be given the opportunity to revive his career at the Reebok stadium. He admitted he was looking forward to the opportunity to prove himself at the club and hopefully establish himself as a first team player
in the second half of the season.
Wheater said while speaking to reporters:
“I want to be playing and if Gaz does go I will miss him as he's a good friend of mine, but it means there is a chance to get in the team and hopefully stay there.
It has been stop and start for me this season. I was in the team and then got a red card and was out of it so hopefully I can stay in the team now.”
When Cahill’s future was undecided and the 26-year-old was at Bolton Wanderers, he enjoyed being picked over the other central defenders. However, with him gone manager Owen Coyle will have to decide which player to deploy in defence to ensure the Trotter’s
do well in the remainder of the season.
It seems Wheater is the prime candidate for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 as he displayed his skills in the FA Cup clash over the weekend. The English defender has had discipline issues in the past and revealed he was lucky to have escaped with just a yellow card after a challenge
on Matthew Hamshaw.
Wheater revealed:
“I worried a little bit. I thought here we go again but Joe [Riley] was there covering so the yellow card was the right decision.
It was good to score too - it has nearly been a year since I last scored and that was for Middlesbrough.”
