English Premier League giants Chelsea have completed the signing of Bolton Wanderers defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 for an estimated fee of 7 million pounds.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international becomes Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas’ first signing of the January transfer window. With the Blues having expressed interest in Cahill even before the transfer window resumed, he was finally signed at the start of the week
after personal terms were agreed.
Cahill then underwent the medical in London and was present as the Blues secured all three points against Sunderland with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge. The team seemed weak at the back and Cahill’s arrival will undoubtedly strengthen the back four.
The former Bolton Wanderers man admitted the opportunity to Chelsea had been too good to pass since the Blues were a massive club in the whole of Europe. He felt the opportunity presented to him at the London club was great and he intended to make the most
of it.
Cahill said in an interview:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 is a massive club, it is a club that looks to win trophies season in, season out and it is a big opportunity for me to be a part of that. Opportunities like this, you can't turn down.”
According to the English defender the move was right for him since he believed it was high time he moved on from Bolton Wanderers. He thanked the management and fans at his previous club for helping him develop into the player he was today.
He revealed:
“This is the right move for me at the right time and I would like to thank everyone at Bolton because I've had a great four years at the football club.
My spell with Wanderers has enabled me to break into the England squad, and I would particularly like to thank the fans for their support along the way.”
Meanwhile, manager Andre Villas-Boas was pleased with his first signing of the winter transfer window. He claimed he was certain Cahill would go on to make a noticeable difference for the Blues in their upcoming fixtures in the Premier League.
Villas-Boas said:
“He has good technical abilities which is important in the way we want to play and to implement our philosophy.”
