Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle hints at Gary Cahill’s departure in the January transfer window
Owen Coyle, the Bolton Wanderers manager, revealed he had considered the possibility of selling star defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international was heavily linked with a move away in the summer transfer
window, but ended up staying at the Reebok Stadium.
The English centre back is valued at an estimated £17 million by Bolton Wanderers, with the failure to meet the expected price resulting in his continued stay with the Trotters. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 were all snubbed by Coyle,
who felt the London clubs had not met the club’s valuation of the player.
Coyle said in an interview:
“That is something that will be seen to be the case in January.”
Coyle admitted that while he did not wish to part with one of his best players, he would let the defender leave if a better club made an appropriate offer. Cahill has already made his desire to play UEFA Champions League football clear, something Coyle does
not disagree with.
He revealed:
“I would love to work with Gary Cahill every day of the week for as long as I could because he is a top player and a fantastic young man.”
According to the Bolton Wanderers manager, Cahill was one of the best defenders in the English Premier League and deserved to play top level football. If the opportunity came knocking on his door, Coyle revealed he would not prevent Cahill from leaving.
His only condition was that the club’s valuation of the central defender be met, which was the only hurdle in his departure from the Reebok Stadium. Meanwhile, the Bolton Wanderers are currently third from bottom in the Premier League table and are looking
to return to winning ways. Coyle was careful not to give too much away, claiming he wanted to wait until January before confirming anything.
Coyle continued:
“Again, sometimes things are taken out of your grasp. We will wait and see what January brings.
But, for this moment in time, what's more important is we continue to improve as a team and continue to pick up points in the Premier League.”
