Bolton Wanderers manager boss Owen Coyle has revealed he wishes club captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Davies-c20716 to remain at the club and fight for his place in the starting line-up.
The 34-year-old striker has been linked to a host of clubs since he revealed he wished to leave the Trotters after losing his place in the first team. Sunderland, Fulham and Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 are amongst the clubs which have been linked with the veteran striker.
The manager revealed that while he understood Davies' desire to leave in search of regular football, he wished the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international would stay on and fight for his place. Meanwhile, he also went on to confirm that there had been no offers for Davies so far.
Coyle did not wish for Davies to leave in the winter transfer window, which would leave Bolton Wanderers without one of their best players as they fought to remain above the relegation zone. The Scottish manager was certain the English striker still had a lot to offer to the team.
Coyle said while speaking to reporters:
“There's a lot of talk but the bottom line is I've not had an offer.
I've spoken to Kevin and he knows he's a part of this club and we want him to stay here. Kevin will be the first to tell you he could have played better earlier in the season.
If he'd played to the level he is capable of then he wouldn't have been out of the team - it's very simple.”
According to Coyle, if Davies was not up to the standard he expected him to be then the striker would not even find himself part of the team. However, that was not the case since Davies was still very much a part of the team and would continue to be so if he maintained decent performances in the upcoming matches in the Premier League.
Coyle continued:
“I want players with a point to prove, ones who want to be at the club. All the power belongs to them.
If they go out and play well, we want them to stay and other clubs will want them.”
