Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle warned his team to start working hard and revealed there was no excuse for underperforming the way they had been doing.
After their 12th defeat in the English Premier League The Trotters slumped to the bottom of the English Premier League table. They are currently in the relegation zone as the Christmas period approaches and Coyle believes it is mostly because
of his team’s attitude.
Their latest defeat was to Aston Villa and Coyle was noted saying after the 2-1 loss that it was a pity that his side were only brought to life when they were two goals down. He felt the players had to do more to prove they deserved to be in the team and
play top level football.
The Scotsman was also concerned about the fact that many of the players’ contracts were nearing their expiration and he was not certain if they deserved a renewal. He urged them to shape up and show commitment, even if they wished to leave Bolton Wanderers
in the near future.
Coyle said in an interview:
“We have 10 or 12 players out of contract next summer and I can totally understand why my owner would be reluctant to be handing out new contracts - until they are earned.
Either you want to be here at a fantastic club, or if you think the grass in greener on the other side, then you play your way into that situation where you will have different offers.
By not performing, you are not doing yourself justice.”

The manager revealed he had no misgivings about Cahill leaving the Reebok Stadium, but wished he would do his best until that time.
He revealed:
“If it means Gary goes with our blessing, then great, but what he has to do between now and January 1 is play to his maximum.”
