Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle urges team to look ahead as they prepare for Wigan Athletic clash
Owen Coyle, the Bolton Wanderers manager, revealed he was determined not to let his side’s poor start to the season affect their performance in the upcoming Premier League fixtures. After a 4-0 win over Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 on opening day of the 2011-2012
season, the Wanderers have gone on to lose preceding six matches.
As a consequence, the Trotters find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table, with just three points. They will take on Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium this weekend in hopes of returning to winning ways before they are written off for relegation
at the end of the season. Coyle revealed he was not necessarily too concerned with the form his side had been in.
The Trotters manager pointed out that his side had managed to collect the most points towards the end of the last season, when the best sides were dropping points. He dismissed the facts and statistics, according to which Bolton Wanderers have made their
worst start to the Premier League, and pointed to when his side were in excellent form as compared to the top clubs.
Coyle said while speaking to reporters:
“I think everyone would concede last year, when we were probably performing at the top of our game, how good a team we were, but from that same group of five games against those clubs we only took one point.”
It must be noted that while Bolton Wanderers have suffered six consecutive defeats, the losses have all been to the top sides. The Trotters had to face the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in their first few fixtures
and understandably were unable to secure decent results.
He admitted:
“We are not happy with some of the performances we have given - we felt we could have performed better, and there is no getting away from that.
We are always honest in our assessment of that and we know we can do better.”
With the likes of Sunderland, Swansea City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion scheduled to face Bolton Wanderers up next, Coyle was hopeful of his side’s chances of recovery. He admitted his side could have done better, but revealed injuries and a tough
fixture list had a big role to play in the fact that they were now at the bottom of the table.
Coyle continued:
“We now have to pick ourselves up and go into a group of games that I believe we can win - the players have to share that belief, and the desire to show their quality when they cross that white line.”
Having been a footballer himself, Coyle was all too aware that the ups and downs were a part of the game. He urged his side to learn a lesson from their inability to do better this season and try and turn their luck around in the upcoming fixtures, starting
with Wigan Athletic.
