Bolton Wanderers confirmed they had held talks with Chelsea regarding defender Gary Cahill and a possible transfer in the January transfer window.
The England defender will be out of contract at the end of this season and has been looking to leave the Reebok Stadium for some time now. It seems he will be most likely heading out in the winter transfer window unless manager Owen Coyle is willing to let
him leave on a free transfer in the summer.
It was after Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas made his interest in the 26-year-old that the news emerged that the Blues had held talks with the Trotters regarding a possible move. Coyle confirmed that the Blues had indeed had a dialogue with Bolton Wanderers
for Cahill.
Coyle said while speaking to reporters:
“Regarding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. He is a top player and is fully focused on Bolton.”
However, the manager confirmed that there was no agreement as yet and only talks had taken place between the two parties. Tottenham Hotspur and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 are also currently in the running to secure the signature of Cahill, so nothing is certain as yet.
Coyle revealed:
“There's nothing signed and sealed at the moment but it's fair to say there has been dialogue here and there.”
The Scottish manager revealed he was aware of Villas-Boas’ admiration for Cahill, because the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 defender had done well to prove himself over the last year. Not only had he done incredibly well for club, he had been in terrific form for country as well.
He felt there was a strong possibility that Cahill would leave Bolton Wanderers over the winter transfer window, but revealed that would only be possible if the price offered was appropriate.
The Trotter’s boss said:
"I know that Andre is an admirer of Gary because he's a terrific player so if there's business to be done it will be done in the right manner for the football club and for Gary.
I've got to be upfront and tell you as I always do but that's the situation, and Gary knows as well that there are two huge games before January 1st before anything could happen.”
