Bolton Wanderers defender David Wheater defender manager Owen Coyle after poor results
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Wheater, the 24-year-old Bolton Wanderers defender, came to the defence of manager Owen Coyle after his side failed to regain their form against newly promoted side Swansea City in their last English Premier League match.
The Trotters remain at the bottom half of the English Premier League table after consecutive losses and were hoping to return to winning ways when they came up against Swansea City. Unfortunately for Coyle and his men, they suffered an embarrassing 3-1 loss.
Currently at second place from the bottom, Bolton Wanderers have lost eight of their last nine games which has led fans to question Coyle’s position at the club. The Scotsman refused to blame his players and took full responsibility for his side’s poor performances.
Wheater, amongst other players, have refused to let the manager take the fall and stepped forward in his defence. He claimed the manager alone was not responsible and it was still early to be pointing finger and panicking.
Wheater said while speaking to reporters:
“It's still early doors. If it was March or April, then we would be worrying but we know we have the players and the right manager and coaching staff to get out of it.”
According to Wheater, who graduated from the Middlesbrough youth academy, there was plenty of time for the Trotters to get back in form. He maintained it was too early to worry since it was only the first half of the season and they still had a long time
to go.
He revealed:
“He [Coyle] has given players a chance and they just haven't taken it.
Players need to take them. I've done enough to stay in the team but others need to come in and do their jobs.”
As for blaming Coyle for the poor performances, Wheater felt that was unfair on the Scotsman. He revealed the manager had given all the players plenty of opportunities to prove themselves, something they had failed to do.
He urged his teammates to step up and improve in the upcoming fixtures so that they may climb up the Premier League table. The central defender who can also play as a right back, felt the team had to work together to make sure they got through the rough
patch.
Wheater continued:
“It's a big challenge. We need to pick ourselves up and pick up our game.
We need to be a team, stick together and play as we know we can.”
