Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill pleased with his form for England
Bolton Wanderers defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello that he deserved to be on the first team. The 25-year-old central defender featured for England alongside
the skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bulgaria-c2861 in the 2012 Euro qualifiers.
While he did not repeat his goal scoring success against Wales, Cahill contributed towards maintaining a clean sheet throughout the surprisingly tough match. In the end England managed a 1-0 victory at Wembley which sees them go top of their group. Cahill
felt he had done well for the national team, considering these two appearances had been his first competitive match for England.
Cahill said while speaking to reporters:
“I'd like to think I've shown the manager that I'm reliable and hopefully he will have confidence in me to go out and do the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
I've been pleased personally with the last two performances.”
Cahill was heavily linked with a move to London sides Tottenham Hotspur and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 over the summer, but unfortunately for the defender the transfer did not go through. According to Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle there had been offers for Cahill, but
none of them matched the club’s valuation for the player which is why Coyle did not accept any offer.
However, despite remaining at the Reebok Stadium, Cahill has managed to catch the eye of Capello and was chosen by the Italian boss to start alongside Terry, replacing the injured http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173. He admitted it had been a daunting task, especially against
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 when England did not exactly get the result they had been hoping for, but Cahill revealed he was pleased he had managed to help keep a clean sheet.
Cahill said:
“First and foremost as a defender, you want to keep a clean sheet. Then you are not going to lose the game.
We did that, managed to get the goal early on and got a good result in the end.”
With a month’s break in-between the next 2012 Euro qualifier fixture, England will have plenty of time to prepare for their next fixture. England are scheduled to travel to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montenegro-c2959 next month, where a draw will be sufficient to ensure their qualification
for the European competition. Cahill was confident his side would do just fine as long as they managed to perform well.
He continued:
“With the quality we've got throughout the side, we've got to go there with positive intent and look to win if at all possible.
That is the way we approach most of the games now and I don't see why that will change.”
