Bolton Wanderers defender Zat Knight admits http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 come calling
Bolton Wanderers defender Zat Knight revealed that while there had been no offers for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 teammate Gary Cahill, the club would not be able to stop him from leaving if a bigger club made an offer for him during the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old England international has been linked with a move to top English Premier League sides, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. However, neither of the sides have made an official offer for the Bolton Wanderers as yet.
Knight has played alongside Cahill in defence at the Reebok Stadium over the past two seasons and admitted losing the former Aston Villa man would be a big loss to the club. However, he was certain Cahill was looking to move on to a top Premier League club.
He admitted that there had been no offers as yet, despite continued interest from the aforementioned sides. Knight felt that has been a blessing for Bolton Wanderers, since they were not keen on losing their best player.
However, he was certain no one would be able to stop Cahill from making a move to a big club if an appropriate offer was made before the transfer window closed. The 31-year-old Knight said in an interview:
“You don't want to lose your best players and Gary is fantastic.
As yet, no one has come in for him, which is a blessing.
We want to keep him but there are a lot of bigger clubs out there and if someone comes in for the right money, no one can stop him.”
However, Knight was confident Bolton Wanderers would manage well in the upcoming season, even if Cahill left. Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Wheater in the January transfer window from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half
year deal. While he was mostly used as a substitute last season, he could get a chance to prove himself this season.
Knight said the arrival of Wheater in the winter transfer window provided the manager with more options and a possible replacement for Cahill. With still some time remaining in the transfer window, the England defender believed the manager could bring in
new players, if he felt the need to. Knight revealed he was hoping to maintain his place, having been consistent for Bolton Wanderers over the last two years.
Knight joined Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 2009 for an estimated fee of £4 million on a three year deal from Aston Villa. He has made 69 appearances in the Premier League since then and has even found the back of the net twice. With Bolton having shown
an improvement last season, Knight felt the club had a long way to go.
He felt the Trotters had to work hard until they managed to finish in the top half of the Premier League table. His aim was European qualification, even if it was just the UEFA Europa League; the second tier European competition. Knight felt the team had
to work hard to ensure they remained consistent throughout the season.
Knight continued:
“We are on our way there. We have made great strides forward since the manager came in, people who watch us play can see that.
We dropped off a little bit towards the end of the season through fatigue but if we can have the same drive and determination, hopefully we can make it last.”
