Bolton Wanderers vs. Chelsea: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 7
It has been a mixed midweek for English sides in the UEFA Champions League, as only one team managed a win in Europe’s premier competition.
Yet, the beauty of the Barclays Premier League is the fact that teams who do not perform well in Europe need not worry about carrying their form into their domestic league as it is a completely different ball game.
Two sides, however, will be looking to outdo the other this weekend when Bolton Wanderers face off against the mighty Chelsea. The latter will be looking to recover from a dramatic draw in midweek against Spanish side, Valencia.
Goal Keeper
Chelsea Goal Keeper, Petr Cech was in sensational form in mid-week and was unfortunate to concede the goal so late on in the match; that too from the cheaply given away penalty.
The Blues keeper may not be among the clean sheets at the moment, but if he can continue to emulate his midweek performance, the Bolton attack line will struggle to find anything but the side netting.
As for Jussi Jaaskelainen, it is a completely different story as the once formidable keeper has taken a beating in terms of points earned this season. That looks unlikely to change this weekend with Chelsea looking sharp in front of goal.
Defenders
Jose Bosingwa is in the point scoring form of his life at the moment and it would be smart business if one was to draft him in their sides, however, how long the wing back from Portugal can maintain his form is anyone’s guess.
On the other side of the pitch, Gary Cahill is an option. However, the highly rated centre back has done nothing but disappoint this season, so a Chelsea player would be the only smart choice.
Midfielders
Stiliyan Petrov had a bright start to the season; however, he has since faded away into the background. Going through the Bolton midfield, it is hard to find any player who would trouble Chelsea man for man, or otherwise, on the pitch.
As for Chelsea, well for once it is a tough choice; Juan Mata may be not be earning as many points as he should, but if he maintains his performances it is only a matter of time before that changes.
Frank Lampard has found a bit of form, scoring in midweek as well. The England international was also substituted in the Champions League match, which means he will most likely play against Bolton.
Strikers
The sad news is that Fernando Torres is suspended and that too after rediscovering his goal scoring touch. We would have recommended him for this match as well, but it seems that is not a possibility.
Yet, Chelsea seems to have the perfect replacement for the Spaniard in the shape of Ivorian striker, Didier Drogba, who marked his return to action with a goal against Swansea in the previous Gamweek.
As for Bolton, Kevin Davies is always a handful and Chelsea do look vulnerable during set pieces, yet it would be a risk not worth taking, to have the Bolton front man in one’s team; for this match at least.
Our Picks: Didier Drogba is a perfect replacement for Fernando Torres and Juan Mata should start converting performances to points anytime now.
