Bolton v Liverpool: half time report
Bolton 0 Liverpool 0
This afternoon's Premier League match at the Reebok Stadium between Bolton and Liverpool remains all square after a goalless first-half.
The Merseyside outfit controlled the opening stages of the match and came close to breaking the deadlock through Fernando Torres in the third minute. The Liverpool No. 9 connected well with a Steven Gerrard cross, but his header sailed over Jussi Jaaskelainen's crossbar.
Torres then had an even better chance to put the Reds in front against the Trotters minutes later. After latching on to a pass from Gerrard, the out-of-sorts Spaniard cut inside his marker, but wasted a glorious opportunity to give his side the lead after mis-hitting his shot.
It took Bolton 22 minutes to get their first shot on target, although when it came, it almost led to a stunning opener. A flicked pass from Kevin Davies found Stuart Holden on the edge of the penalty area, and the USA international powered a well-struck volley towards the Liverpool goal, only to be denied by Pepe Reina.
Five minutes before the break, Gerrard then should have hit the target after being teed-up by Torres, but the Liverpool captain dragged his shot harmlessly wide.
Bolton's Matt Taylor then had two free-kicks saved by Reina, as the two sides went into the break level pegging.
