The name has not been changed, but restored. Yes, the original name of the city is not Bombay but Mumbai. During the British rule, the city earned the name 'Bombay' becuase the the British found it difficult to pronounce 'Mumbai' like they did for many other Indian cities.

It's a pity that the Government took such a long time to restore the city's original name. But that's how the Governments function. Isn't it ?
