  1. I didn't see the programme, I can understand your point though, but the uk is the third richest country in the world (or there abouts) so we should have one of the best transport systems in the world.

It is the same in shipping though, and its as the old saying goes the grass isnt always greener on the other side.

  2. The question starts by asking "Who saw...." so the first two answers start with "I didn't....." ! ! !

HOWEVER, not only did I watch BOTH of the programmes - it was a two-parter  (Wed & Thur) - and having seen them (along with some other similar ones in the past) I find this good reason NOT to visit the place, and as for Britain's railways, like it or lump it, you only get what you pay for, and unless you're willing to travel by other means, there are very few options but to take it or leave it.

Rather a sad reflection on today's society, isn't it !-

  3. I didn't see the programme, but I've been on the Bombay railway.

We have no idea how the 2/3rds of the rest of the world live, or what they have to live with.

We cannot comprehend the true meaning of overcrowded or dirty until you've been there.

It's another world, and it's all about need. Those people who you would have seen on the trains would have NEEDED to be on the trains, otherwise they could not get by.

If a train like that turned up here, we would refuse to get on it. That's because we don't really need to.

No matter how fussy we are in the west, and how much we refuse to accept "low" standards of service, we have no risk of starvation or death (social services safety nets), whereas in places like Bombay, if you don't get on the train and go to work then you die. It's as simple as that.
