Bombing attack planned for the Hannover Vs Borussia Dortmund game according to German police
German authorities have foiled a terrorist attack. A bombing plan was foiled by the German authorities after the German police received a tip about a bomb threat ahead of Saturday’s clash between Borussia Dortmund and Hannover at the Signal Iduna Park.
The authorities have arrested a man who was allegedly planning to set off bombs during the Borussia Dortmund vs. Hannover clash. According to local newspaper Bild, two holes were discovered by the police – one was found near Krefeld and another one was found
near the Signal Iduna Park, where the explosives and heavy weaponry was hidden. Moreover, according to the German authorities, the offender is a German citizen who was planning to attack the fans when they arrived for the Bundesliga encounter between the two
sides. Firm conclusions on the event are yet to be reached as there is no news about the motives behind the foiled attempt.
The German authorities only deserve praise for foiling such an attempt. Had the bombing taken place, as planned, the event could have lead to tragic consequences. Of their 13 home games this year, Borussia Dortmund have boasted sell-out crowds in 9 games,
averaging 78,798 visitors for each game; the best attendance in all across Europe. The upcoming game against Hannover is also expected to be sell-out which means that the German police have done extremely well in avoiding a catastrophe.
Meanwhile, the game between Borussia Dortmund and Hannover will still take place and it is very unlikely that it will be postponed. However, abnormally heightened security and police patrols are expected around the stadium’s peripheries in order to avoid
any risk of a terrorist attack. This is the first time in the history of the German football that a terrorist attempt has been planned for a Bundesliga game.
