Bond eager to manage injuries – Cricket News Update
New Zealand’s bowling coach, Shane Bond, wants to maintain a bowling profile in order to ensure that the Kiwi bowlers avoid constant injuries.
"From an injury point of view that's what I'm talking about, that profile. We need to know are these guys stiff? Are they tired? How they're eating, how they're sleeping, so that when they get an injury we can look back and say that this is a trend that's occurred and perhaps this is why the injury's occurred."
Bond was recently appointed the bowling coach, taking over from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Damien-Wright-c1304 who decided to quit after a 13-month spell. A former player himself, Bond’s own career was cut short due to various injury worries and he finally decided to hang his boots in 2010, having already quit the longer version a year before.
In total, he played in 18 Tests and 82 ODIs, claiming 87 and 147 scalps respectively. He was well respected by his peers, and was considered among the genuine fast bowlers of his generation, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419.
Having already worked with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Board, the 37-year-old expressed his intentions to work closely with the national team players and jumped at the opportunity after it was presented to him.
His first task sees him helping his side to gear up for a tough away series to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, where pitches offer little to pacers. Nonetheless, he is confident of achieving the desired results which according to him will only come if the bowlers deliver on a regular basis.
The current crop of Kiwi pacers include veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaminda-Vaas-c1223 as well, in order to better assist the left-armers in the side. Bond also expressed his intention to guide the spinners, despite having limited knowledge in that department.
"That (spin bowling) is an area of weakness I think. In terms of technique, psychology and playing under the pressure it is all the same bowling seam and pace.”
The series begins with a One-off T20I on October 30.
