Bondi claim Rockstar considering LA Noire’s MotionScan face capture for Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA V)
After receiving rave reviews and critical acclaim for LA Noire, Team Bondi, the game’s developer, claim that Publisher Rockstar, who published LA Noire, are considering whether or not to implement the revolutionary MotionScan technology.
The technology allowed the developer to capture facial movement with such detail that there were points in the game where gamers could not tell whether it was animation, or a professional actor they were watching on screen.
In fact, LA Noire would have been just another ordinary game had it not been for the impressive piece of technology.
However, it seems that Rockstar are now looking at ways to use the tech for the next Grand Theft Auto game (GTA V). That is, at least, according to Team Bondi.
Co-founder of Team Bondi, Brendan McNamara replied to questions on the matter of MotionScan being used on different level and the humility in the developer’s voice was commendable, as he acknowledged the fact that GTA was a bigger series, yet he explained
that the larger scale and scope of the series would make implementing MotionScan less feasible.
“Yeah, I think they're looking at it for every game. As much as LA Noire is a huge game, Grand Theft Auto is incredibly huge, so you've got all the problems of how big the cast would be and how many lines would you have to record and all that kind of stuff,”
McNamara explained.
Despite the less-than-friendly relationship between the developer and the publisher in recent weeks, McNamara welcomed the idea of Rockstar making use of the technology.

”Obviously we'd like them to, and they're more than welcome to use MotionScan, but if they decide it's not right for that and want to use it for another game, then that's fine too,” conceded the developer.
It seems that McNamara is more concerned that the technology be used effectively rather than just for the sake of it; something many gamers will agree to.
However, the co-founder did provide some reassurance to fans by stating that Rockstar knew what they were doing and that they had a history of making the right moves when it came to which direction they wanted to take a franchise.
“Rockstar will make those decisions. They generally make the right decisions in terms of what they do for their games,” he added.
Whether or not the MotionScan technology will be used for Gran Theft Auto 5 is anyone’s guess at this stage, however, if Rockstar do decide to use it could lift the series to an entirely new level.
There has been no official confirmation of GTA V from Rockstar, with gamers expecting to see something on the title at E3 earlier in the year.
