I was wondering does anyone know any sites or tips for conditioning. My friend can punch dry wood and literally smash it in two. When i try a just get a sore pinkey :D Im 13 years old and a boxer. He trains in muay thai and he does shin and knee conditioning with rolling pins. What are the side effects of doing that. And he told me he just use to punch walls and basically anything as his mum refused to get him a boxing bag. What are the bad effects of conditioning his shin/knees/knuckles. Will he get arthiritis or something

  1. You are too young to be conditioning your body by striking hard objects without extreme negative effects. Try building yourself up first and I don't mean just muscles.

    Here is a couple great physical conditioning sites;

    http://www.twistconditioning.ca/

    Check out Steve Cotter on you-tube for real performance conditioning.

    Remember that you are still young and never do anything without a physician's approval.

  2. You just asked this question a little while ago.

    Killing of nerves in the shin ?

    I read somewhere that muay thai and some karate fighters deaden/kill of the nerves in their shins so they can kick harder and feel less pain. I train in Karate and i sometimes see my sensei rolling a pin or a bar up and down his shin ( his legs are like a f***king baseball bat) . What are the dangers of doing this, nerves arent really there for nothing else except for feeling pain. What can happen if you do this, will you get arthiritis in your legs or something, and btw please dont say its bad because it kills nerves? If you can add some info or links to studies or something. Thanks

    So which do you take boxing or karate? Why not just tell the truth as too why you want the links?

  3. You're body is still growing (because you're 13). Lots of Weight-training and conditioning similar to that -at your age- can stunt your growth.   Concentrate on calisthenics and cardio.

  4. You can get arthritis as well as develop other problems if you go about it the wrong way and try and build them to quickly which is one of the most common mistakes.  Doing this as well as soaking them in alternating buckets of cold and hot water and use of lineaments like Dit Da Jow are things that should be done over time and a gradual approach should be taken.  I have known some black-belts that did not do this and paid for it down the road later in life and have problems with their hands now while others who took the more gradual approach don't have near as much trouble with their hands.
