Bonnie Brandon and Matt Grevers shine in California: Day one – Los Angeles Invitational
Brandon Bonnie and Matt Grevers entertained the crowd with their fantastic swims on day one of the Los Angeles Invitational in Los Angeles, California, on Friday, July 15.
Mission Aurora’s Brandon Bonnie claimed the Women’s 200m back-stroke title, whereas, Ford Aquatics’ Matt Grevers secured the gold medal in the Men’s 200m back-stroke meet.
The Women’s 200m back-stroke title was taken over by Brandon with a winning time of 2 minutes and 11.83 seconds, while Mikkayla Sheridan of Australia secured the silver medal in a time of 2 minutes and 12.15 seconds. Maya DiRado of Stanford earned bronze
in 2 minutes and 13.35 seconds.
Kendyl Stewart of North Coast wound up fourth in 2 minutes and 14.23 seconds, whereas, Maggie Meyer of Ford Aquatics settled fifth in a time of 2 minutes and 15.12 seconds. Cal Aquatics’ Stephanie finished sixth in 2 minutes and 15.72 seconds, while Lauren
Smart earned seventh spot in 2 minutes and 15.86 seconds. Finally, Meghan Hawthorne of Ratter Swimming Club was placed eighth in a time of 2 minutes and 17.51 seconds.
Matt Grevers took home the Men’s 200m back-stroke title with a sterling time of 1 minute and 59.79 seconds. In the meantime, his team-mate, Cory Chitwood grabbed silver in 2 minutes and 00.55 seconds. Alex Lendrum secured the bronze medal in 2 minutes and
01.79 seconds.
Palo Alto’s Nick Trowbridge earned fourth place honours in 2 minutes and 04.53 seconds, whereas, Chris Rogers of Cal Aquatics snared fifth spot in a time of 2 minutes and 05.08 seconds. Matt Hurko wound up sixth on the podium in 2 minutes and 05.45 seconds.
Ford Aquatics’ Michael Sheppard finished seventh in 2 minutes and 05.61 seconds, while his team-mate, Pete Stacy settled eighth in a time of 2 minutes and 06.44 seconds.
Earlier, Remy Fairweather claimed the Women’s 800m freestyle crown with an impressive time of 8 minutes and 37.07 seconds. In addition, Elaine Breeden of Stanford snagged the Women’s 200m butterfly title with a genuine time of 2 minutes and 09.12 seconds.
