Question:

Bonsai help please!?

I have a bonsai that i have had for about 2 years. I repotted it for the first time a few weeks ago. Now the plant is looking very wilted and sorry for itself - as if it is underwatered. Though i suspect that the symptoms are related to overwatering.

How can i help it! Will repotting it in almost dry (damp) soil help???

I really don't want it to die!!

Thanks

  1. Repotting is very traumatic. Are you using the right soil mixture?

  2. Bonzais need loam-rich  compost, preferably with fired-clay particles at the bottom.

If you let it go dry it will probably start shedding leaves.

You should keep the soil moist, but not let the pot stand in water.

  3. Oh, dear. Your poor plant has been traumatized by the repotting. Please check this site for identification and subsequent care guidelines.

  4. Without knowing what kind of tree and under what conditions it has been growing it is very difficult to answer this question.  Maples and other deciduous trees are to be repotted before the tree has leafed out.  Junipers and other conifers are repotted shortly after most deciduous trees.  Ficus and other tropicals can be repotted straight through the summer, as this is when they put out most of their growth.

Repotting should be done during a specific time of year depending on the type of tree.  Well drained soil should be used to promote lots of root growth.
