I am a rookie at this sport, and have been to the beach for bout once or twice a week, so I am just wondering, after the previous experiences, the waves ussually pick up in the mid to late afternoon which is around 3 to 5PM, Is that the best time for boogie boarding? I ussually hang out at the twin lake state beach, santa cruz CA...is it always like that? so I know and from now on I should go to the beach a little bit later in the day...and one more question: is boogie boarding expose you to sharks? and are there a lot of shark in the santa cruz area?

  1. it depends on the tide and wind direction. High tide gives better and cleaner waves.

As for sharks, sharks are everywhere, and yes, there have been incidents where people have been bitten while boogie-boarding.

I wouldn't worry about it though, as long as you stay out of the water from 5PM-7:30 AM

And its always good to bring a friend or someone to stay in the water with you.
