Question:

Book Idea - Good or Stupid? (part 2)?

Ok, I gotta be more specific when asking questions. I've gotten some replys from people already about my book idea, but I'll give more detail.

It's going to be a modernized version of disney movies. They won't be real princesses; they'll just be regular girls who will happen to encounter some similar things from the movies (with twists of course). I won't make them mean, but I'll change their attitudes a little so they're not goody-goody. So, same question: good idea or bad?

Oh, and as a few other people pointed out, I should probably change the name so I don't get sued by Disney. Any ideas?

  1. sounds like deli express to me

  2. well being that your description is pretty vague i suppose it could work. Any book could work or not work, there are so many variables it's hard to predict. you could have the same plot but two different morals, or completely different writing.

most of the time for me style of writing is the largest deciding factor of whether or not i finish a book.

  3. It's a good idea, but hasn't it already been done?

  4. It's a good idea, but it has been done before.

I'm sure your book would be different but still, been there done that.

It's often a writing assignment for high school students like write the true story of... blank. An example being Cinderella from one of the evil step sister's point of view.

Hoodwinked!: The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood

by The Happily Ever After Agency

    is another example.

  5. Yeah, that really is a great idea.

    I would read it.

  6. Well, it's not an incredibly bad idea, but I would say that it's plagiarism if you make them similar to the movies.  Creativity is a major part of being a writer, and if you can't produce your own ideas, plots, and characters, I would really disrespect you. However, I'm not accusing you of doing so.  The idea of turning a fairy tale into a modern story is a good idea, and if I were you, rather than copying a disney movie, I would use aspects of all fairy tales for yours, that way you're not copying.  Like invent your own villain, your own form of prince charming, and your own sort of fairy godmother, etc, but make up your own story, your own sequence of events, and somehow make it obvious that it is a modern fairy tale!

    Good luck.

  7. Not a bad idea, but it's not uncommon.  My friend has read like thirty books that are modernized-disney-princess tales... a bit cliche but if you can pull it off with some personality then you should have no problem :D

  8. i luv that idea! id totally read that book! I would be like awesome.

  9. i think it could be a good idea depending on how you write it.  I love the disney movies and I don't think spoofy stuff on them is very good.  if it was more like how they modernize shakespear plays like with having juliet a chearleader and romeo a football player or something like that... Th eonly problems with that are making sure it doesn't get to cheezy and that it follows closly to the disney plot but far enough way to be creative and not just a copy of it but change the names.

  10. Go for it. But lemme tell you, it's a ton of work. You've got to have a lot of self-discipline to actually get that many words down on paper.
