Hey! I have a huge project coming up (english 1st semester project) and, it's for English ; it's still early in the year but it's preparation, and it goes into mid-semester marks (term 1/4). So, anyways, i'm in 8th grade, and this project is to find a book to base a series reports on (oral, then big presentation). And we need to get a book on our level (im 13 years old, but i love reading, so anything will be fine). It also needs to be approved by my teacher so you know how it kinda' will be :).

Can i get like some book recommendations, and some information on it..? Because i'm DESPERATE, and really want to do well this time!

Oh, and i was thinking of reading Twilight, but, i'm not sure..

I also really like Meg Cabot books but for pleasure reading, i really don't want to do a book report on one of her her books cause i'm not sure it's that, i don't know.. lol..

And, i can read any level (above 7.5th), so yeah..

Thanks!

Best answer (best recommendation and idea of the book) gets 10 points :)

  1. I'm not sure which books are appropriate for reports based on teachers, especially from public school cause i've never been to1,except college.  try picking a topic first, like on global warming or on house pets and such.  Then find books on your topic that can give you lots of info on it and that are interesting for you to read.  But with  everything you gather make sure you don't plagiarize.

  2. -Bud Not Buddy. This is about a black orphan and he is sent to many different houses with white people and they're mean to him. In the end he ends up running away and goes to this small camp for poor people and the police come and clear the camp or something like that. I liked the book.

-Flipped. I read this book a couple days ago. Its about these 2 kids *Julianna n Bryce* Their nextdoor neighbors since 1rst grade and Juli likes Bryce but Bryce is so mean to her so when they're both in 8th grade Juli no longer likes Bryce but Bryce likes her more than anything.

-A Child Called It. This story is real sad. Its about a little boy who gets beaten by his mother and its a true story. This actually happened to the author of the story.

I really want to read Twilight but a girl at my middle school said it wasnt a good book.... idk.... Good Luck and i hope u get an A on ur project!

  3. I have started reading this book called the Last Lecture. It's by Randy Pausch. He was a professor at Carnagie Mellon University who just passed away from cancer. It's a really inspiring book. It's thin and a great read.

  4. There are so many excellent books out there.  Have you considered some of the more classic works?  Some older books may be diffifcult to read but the subjects are so rich that they can easily produce reports.  Sir Walter Scott's "Ivanhoe" has chivalry, romance, bigotry, murder, a witch trial and a brief appearance of Robin Hood - great stuff but hard to read and quite long.

"Jane Eyre". "Wuthering Heights" and "Pride and Prejudice" create possibilities for reports comparing and contrasting the life of a teenager today to that of one 200 years ago.  Jane and WH are much darker than Pride, but all have some very romantic stuff.

    Good Luck!

  5. lol its a good thing that you like to read cause if you didn't then that would of been a huge problem for me to recommend you an easy book.. anyway my favorite book is Kite Runner By:Khaled Hosseini. i don't know wat level it is but i read it when i was in 9th grade(lol not a long time ago I'm going to 10th now)

its a story about a boy that lived in Afghanistan and then he had to move to the U.S.A because of the war but it there is more then that to the story it so good it talks about like how a person's life could change so fast and how there is away to be good again...

you probably heard about this book people have been talking about it alot and everytime i go to the library the book is always checked out..

good luck on your project and best wishes to you for the new skool year

  6. If you want to read a really good book about life I suggest The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger .. If I spelt that wrong im sorry but the book shouldnt be hard to find I read it when i was in 7th grade and its still a favortie.

  7. You should read the book Crank, by Ellen Hopkins.

It might look like a thick read, but the style she writes in

makes it possible to finish in five hours.

Not only that but its also a very good book.

    good luck.

  8. The book The Secret Life of Bees (by Sue Monk Kidd) tells the story of a young girl who loses her mother at a young age in the most devastating way.  She grows up with her father, T Ray, an emotionally distant and frequently abusive man.  The only person Lily can connect to is her black nanny, Rosaleen, who raised her ever since her mother's death.  When an event in the town endangers Rosaleen, Lily runs away with her in search of clues to her mother's past via a picture of the virgin Mary from "Tiburton, SC."  Lily meets a wonderful set of people in Tiburton that help her grow as a person and understand her mother's past so that she can move on in her future.

  9. I'd recommend pretty much anything by Sarah Dessen.  She's an amazing author! [:
