Question:

Book Recommendations..?

I used to be really in to reading when I was younger but then I stopped for a while, and now I want to start again but I don't have anything good to read. And I don't know anyone who really reads, or at least at my level so I can't get ideas from people I know.

The last two books I read were The Curios Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and I loved both of them.

I like most genres I guess, but I don't like romance or proper horror. I don't mind those things but I prefer them to be part of a story rather than the main subject.

Bleh, I could explain more but I don't want to be too selective because anything is an advance on what I have now.

Btw, I'm 16, but I don't like "teen" books eg. the ones which are like a girl's diary, I find stuff like that boring, in general.

Any good recommendations would be reallyyy appreciated. (:

  1. My favorite books when I was 16 were Tamora Pierce's fantasy books -- the Alanna series and Circle of Magic particularly. Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones is a good fantasy too.

If you like sci-fi, check out Ender's Game, which is my favorite sci-fi book. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a bizarre sci-fi comedy.

And if you like nautical adventures or pirates, check out the Bloody Jack series.

  2.    Why don't you try finding some classic reading lists, ones that list authors like Tolstoy and Hawthorn (by the way, I'm 16, too, and absolutely loved Anna Karenina and The Scarlet Letter, they're not as boring as you might think). Or, if you want something a little less weighty I suggest select Nicholas Sparks books and definitely L.M. Montgomery. Good luck reading!

  3. Haruki Murakami. Its what I read during my early teen years and still do. Sounds like it would be right up your street. Not for teens though.

  4. Read Dean Koontz's Novels. They are eccellent thrillers the whole way through and out. All of them. They keep you in suspense until the very last page!

  5. These are some really good books that I've read and thoroughly enjoyed:

-the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud*****

-the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer*

-The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen(any book by her)

-Hawksong(series) by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes(any book by her)

-The Shannara series by Terry Brooks*****

    -Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

    -Watership Down by Richard Adams

    -Great Expectations by Charles Dickens*

-Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter

-The Counte of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas*

-The Princess Bride by William Goldman*

    -Discworld series by Terry Pratchet*****

    -Battle Royale by Roushun Takami*****
