Book and Movie Project?

Question

Does anyone know any books written by American authors that have been turned into movie.

I have to write a paper and give a presentation.

It would be good if they dealt with issues going on in the USA at the time.

To Kill A Mockingbird, Grapes of Wrath, I think the Secret Life of Bees Movie is coming out soon, actually October 17th.  If your due date is a longgg ways away I would recommend that.

Beloved by Toni Morrison; slavery (movie starring Oprah)

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (AMAZING movie too) with prohibition and post depression
