Over the summer, I had to read a book, The Old Man and the Sea, for school. And the paper i got said this:

"See what the critics have to say. Locate, read, and summarize at least one critical review of this novel. Include a bibliography with this aasignment."

But I don't know what it means...

If you have any links or websites, please tell me.

  1. Search online to find a critical review of the book (someone who writes for a newspaper, or other type of thing) and summarize what that reviewer said. Include where you got the review (example, New York Times) as the bibliography.

  2. This stuff was always confusing at first in English class. I think you're supposed to find what critics have said about the book, quote it, and then source it. But since it says "summarize" it then you need to basically read the critic's review and write in your own words what they were talking about. Paraphrase.

My school site has helpful sites to go where you can actually read critical reviews and other resources so you should check your school site if they give links.

Didn't your teacher show you an example? I wish I had my example papers to show you directly how to do it.

I hope someone here can provide you with good examples but my memory fails me and without my paper I don't want to give you the wrong information. I'd definitely ask a classmate or even email the teacher for an example. It would be a lot easier to do that if you can't find a good example online.

  3. It means that after you read the book look up what critics say about it. Pick a critic and summerize what the critic said in your own words.  A bibliography means you have to add on a seperate page the sources (websites/books) you used to find this info so you aren't plagerizing, good luck
