  1. bookies far too clever for you matey give it up

  2. The bookie has ONE thing only in his favour and that is the odds so if you can beat the figures you can win. ALL other choices are with the punter. How do you beat the figures? Bookies are not geniuses and it is very difficult to formulate a market where the odds on offer for each horse truly represent each horse's chance. So you need to be able to assess, as well as those guys whom the bookie pays to determine odds.

You should also try to bet in those races where the overround is small and avoid handicaps and large fields. Having said that, I enjoy more success backing horses at double figure prices than I do in single figures. But you need to be an original thinker and to be able to determine your selections without being influenced by pundits. A good punter knows when the odds on offer are too big but it all takes time so you should confine yourself generally to no more than 3 races per day and go many days without betting at all. Avoid all class 5 races and below and stick to class 2 and above as horses below class 3 often beat themselves because they are unwilling to put in the effort.

  3. No you can't beat the bookie, but you can still enjoy a great day out at the races and win.

It's a mugs game sitting at home and picking horses out of the paper, you need to see them in the paddock.  They might be sweating up or playing up, they may bolt to the start (your moneys gone before the race is even off).  They might not like the ground.  You can look at a horses action on the way to post if he goes well on soft he will have a high knee action and if he likes the firm ground he will have what is called a 'daisy cutter' action.

You can keep an eye on the betting, sometimes a horse is favourite in the morning paper but will drift out of the betting because of suspected cough or unsuitable conditions.

Theres nothing like being at the races and actually seeing where your moneys going, and you will be amazed at the clues you pick up from the way other horses have run in certain races as to their chances next time out.

If you have been betting on line stop immediately because you will never win, your money becomes virtual and you never get to hold your winnings in your hand, you just keep betting until its all gone.

Hope this helps and look forward to seeing you at the races one day. xx

  4. start up as a bookie, you will not beat them by betting that's why the have a book, this is to sort out the odds so that they always come out on top. If you can't be a bookie just stop betting. Even if you find a formulae that makes every race you bet in a certainty the Bookie would bar you from betting so would all the others, so betting is a losers game, I was good a gambling I once bought a car out of my winnings but over the years I lost out so I stopped gambling .  I have been solvent for the last 30 years and that's thanks to stopping betting.

  5. yes its very possible. with the right information of when a horse will be trying to win and when horse is just running to make up numbers. you need info from yard/trainers/stablelads/jockeys whoever is connected to the horse.

you bet when you have this info and never when you dont.

then and only then will you beat the bookies!

  6. Read most of what eddie d  says except for the last bit and you wont go far wrong Put in the homework and you can make a profit but its not easy Bookies know what there doing so you have to be sharp but they are beatable Its all down to the maths and hard work

  7. im sorry

no... i do believe it is simply impossible

  8. I have never heard of a successful horse handicapper. The house always wins, they would not be in business if they lost

  9. in the short term...... if your lucky

    in the long term no!

    sorry about the bleak out-look!

  10. No, but learn to bet within a budget. Bet today what you have today and not what you think you may have tomorrow

  11. I once read an article that said that even the best methods only yield about a 10% profit margin. Abandon the bookies and start selling knives to London's youngsters. Apparently it's a huge market, just get out there and get your stake in [pardoning the pun].
