Bookies contacted our players also reveals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Cricket Board
After the latest match-fixing scandal against Pakistani players, it has now been revealed that several other cricket teams were also targeted by the bookies.
Two days ago, it was Australian Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 who came forward with his story about how he was contacted twice by illegal bookmakers in England last year and also how he had prevented himself from getting into their trap.
Now it’s the Bangali tigers, who have recently confirmed that they were approached by the bookmakers earlier this year during their home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 were contacted by the Bookies in January 2010.
Shakib was then captain of Bangladesh team while Tamim was the leading batsman. However, the board’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters that the incident was straight away reported to the Anti-Corruption as well as Security Units of ICC.
Bookies had approached Shakib in 2008 as well. That episode happened in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751.
According to Shakib, he took that call and the caller simply said that he wanted to sponsor the Bangladesh skipper. There was no clear talk of a match-fix but still the way the caller was talking made the cricketer think that he might have some hidden agenda. In the end, Shakib reported the incident to the Board and also the ACSU's regional manager, Colonel Qaza Noor.
These two developments and the latest match-fixing controversy surrounding Pakistani players have prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board to organize an "awareness program" for its national cricketers on dealing with the fixers and the bookies.
Yunus, the media committee chairman added that the Bangladeshi players have their own individual agents over whom the board has no control so the BCB management has asked its key players to provide complete details about their agents. This would help in ensuring checks and the board would be more aware of the forces which tend to influence the Bangali tigers from behind the scene.
Meanwhile, comparatively low wage structure in some cricket playing nations seems to be one of the key factors that encourage match-fixing. Yunus, however, was certain that this would never sway the Bangali tigers, who receive much less than their counterparts in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, India or any other big cricketing nation.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yunus-c98347 said that it ultimately depends on the player that how much honest, sincere and committed he is to the game.
