  1. yeahhh you can. i mean you obviously aren't going to get the room selection you might like but it's cheap! the latest i would book would be 3 days, but not sure about the absolute latest...

  2. I think the latest you can book is the day before the ship sales.

  3. Yes, I've booked a week in advance.

I believe it's technically possible for the cruise line to add a passenger to the manifest 96 hours (4 days) in advance of scheduled departure ... but it may depend on the cruise line, as well as where it's sailing from and to.  A week is usually fine, even for departures from non-US ports.

That said, the much bigger issue is that cruises tend to sell out a lot earlier than that.  Even two weeks in advance is "last minute" for the cruise lines.

This is an article that lays out the pros and cons of waiting until the last minute to book a cruise vs. booking early:

  4. I think so. As long it isn't sold out.

Sometimes they have specials on extra cabins that go unsold

or you can check out vacationstogo.com. They have amazing deals!

I'd suggust  royal caribbean as your line. they are the best cruise company!

Also cruisecritic will have info on the ports of call, the ship, what goes on during the sailing and reviews for everthing from service to shore excursions.
