Booking a theatre show in london???

I am visiting london and i have heard that it is one of the best places for theatre. I would love to take my family to one while we are staying there.

I would like to watch lion king, mousetrap or lord of the rings.

But i dont know how to go about booking a show online.

There seem to be huge price differences for the same show from different sights.

Also i dont have any idea about the seating arrangement

Where and how can i book reasonably priced and good seats for sometime between 14th and 23 july??

Please help?

  1. I think it may be best to just get the tickets once you are in London. Visit the TKTS booth in Leicester Square for discounted tickets to that night's shows. This is really only a good idea if you don't have a preference what show you see since the tickets sold by TKTS are for shows with seats left for that night's performance and they do not offer tickets to new shows. The booth is open Monday - Saturday 10:00-19:00 and Sunday - 12 noon to 15.00. For the best chance of getting tickets to a good show, get to the booth a little bit before they open. TKTS is completely respectable and your tickets will be legitimate. If you buy discount tickets from one of the many shops in London that offer them, your tickets will likely not be legitimate. You can find out more about the location of the TKTS booth and how it works here http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/t...

Many of the sites for booking show tickets online are not legitimate.  A very reliable website, through which you can also book show/dinner/hotel packages at good prices is http://london.broadway.com/.

  2. www.londontheatreboxoffice.net are really good, they've also got a seating plan of the theatre so you can see where you want to sit.  Basically, the further away from the stage you are, the cheaper the ticket prices get :)

    hope this helps

  3. One of the best websites to book tickets is http://www.aloud.com they have tickets for all the shows you want.

  4. There are TONS of discount ticket shops in the west end. I would discourage using any of them except the large TCKTS booth in Leicester Square. I'm sure the other vendors are mostly honest, but I've heard a few horror stories about fake tickets, stolen money, etc. Just be on your toes.

The farther away the seats, the cheaper the price. If the show is good though, it really doesnt matter, in my opinion. Make sure you ask the seller where the seats are. I once paid a lot for a ticket in the 5th row, was very excited, and when I got there I realized I was at the very end of the row and half the stage was cut out of my view.

The best seats are, in my opinion, in the first few rows of the 1st balcony (dress circle I think its called, but not sure). You don't have to pay as much but you get a great view. You would think being on the floor would be best, but unless you're in the first couple of rows, you usually spend more time moving around to see over or around the person in front of you. The balcony is usually sloped, so even if you're close to the back, you've got an unobstructed view of the stage.

  5. If you have the time go to Leicester Square on the day of the show you want to see and there you will find many vendors selling tickets at 50% or more off.

Be mindful of fake sellers and the websites I posted provide useful info.

Thats why I went to the TKTS booth in the Square because they are a well known company as opposed to many other little shops and individuals I saw selling tickets.

Its located right near the Leicester Square tube station so it is very easy to get to and some of the theatres are in the vicinity as well.

I used the TKTS booth in the Square and got cheap tickets to Les Miserables.

However, be mindful of what seats you are getting.

I inadvertently ended up buying the last row in the balcony section  and regretted that.

So ask to see a seating chart before you book to avoid being too far away.

  6. You can google 'half price theatre tickets' and get a whole range of cheap tickets also I use lastminute.com however you cannot always guarantee best seats.

If you have teenagers or are into break dancing yourself then make sure you see 'into the hood' it's a brilliant insight into how London has become and the dancing will leave you more than entertained.

    Have a good trip. :-)
