Any recommendations? I know she's written a lot so I'm wondering which ones I should start reading.

I've read Howl's Moving Castle and Castle In The Air

  1. I think there is one called Year of the Griffen, or at least something with the word Griffen in it, Charmed Life, Dark Lord of Derkholm and you can also Google her books.

  2. Two Diana Wynne Jones questions in one night? I must be dreaming! LOL

    Anyway . . .

The third book in the Castle series, House of Many Ways, came out recently in June, so you should read it!

Fire and Hemlock is her personal favorite, so you should read that. It takes quite a while to get [trust me, you will not get the ending first time], but a great take on Tam Lin.

The Time of the Ghost is her most auto-biographical and quite dark.

The Homeward Bounders is also lovely, it's about a boy who gets thrown out of his World and must travel all the other Worlds before getting back Home.

Archer's Goon is great and keeps you guessing.

Dark Lord of Derkholm is funny, a parody on fantasy novels in general. I'm right now reading the sequel, Year of the Griffin, which is good, too!

I'm relatively new to Diana Wynne Jones, so I haven't yet read the Chrestomanci series [le gasp!] which is the one that's made her most famous, but I've heard it's good, too.

Also . . . you may try her earlier works, like her first children's book, Wilkins' Tooth, and Wild Robert, which you could probably read in two hours or less.

Stopping for a Spell is a three short story collection that has funny stories from her in it.

It doesn't really matter which book you read from her, you're bound to get a good story, anyway. I'm trying to read them all :)
