Our family is planning to move. Now that we are cleaning out the house, we just don't know what to do with all of our books. We can't take them all. What can we do?

  1. Donate them to your local library or schools. They always are in need of them.

  2. here are some options:

    1.  sell your books online

    2.  have a garage sale and sell them (if i was there, i would buy them :) i love books)

    3.  donate your books to some kind of foundation

    4.  give them away to friends

    5.  donate them to a library

and this is a suggestion i wont recommend

    6.  throw them all away

  3. I'd find a way to keep them, I hate getting rid of books. Otherwise...

    Sell them:

http://ebay.com or anywhere else where you sell them direct to the buyer will get you the most money, but it can be time consuming, unless you sell them in large lots.

Your local used book store. In Texas, we're dominated by Half Price Books, which doesn't pay much. A small independent book store will pay more.

    Have a garage sale.

Sell them in very large lots on http://craigslist.com

    Donate them:

Your local library, though some don't take donations

    Soldiers: http://www.booksforsoldiers.com/

    Inmates: http://www.prisonpenpals.net/booksbehind...

Edit: Worst case - recycle them, don't just put them in the trash.

  4. Donate them to a library. Give them to friends. Whenever I have a book I don't like anymore, I just give it to the library.

  5. Give them to me and I'll use them in my classroom with my students.  :-)

  6. You can do any number of things. Like the person said before you could take them to the library, or you could donate them to charity, or try to sell them on ebay or through your local newspaper. You could have a book sale (instead of a garage sale). You could also try to take them to a second hand bookstore, but generally they don't give cash any more just credit. That's all i can come up with at the moment, if i think of anything else i'll add it on.

    Have fun moving!!

  7. Donate, donate, donate. There are many places that would be grateful for any free books.

Try Your local library,,, they have book sales and sure could use your books

Try The House of Ruth... These women would love to have them

Try Goodwill Industries... They provide jobs thru their stores for people

    who otherwise might be unemployable

Try The Salvation Army... They will pick up your donation

Try The Amvets......Ditto, they will pick up your donation, and resell them at their stores

Try any of your local schools. ... Depending on the type of books you have, children's, classics, fiction, etc. they may be interested. You may have to deliver these yourself tho.

Try advertising on E-Bay.... That is if you still have time to work on this.

These are just some of the places that I can think of right now. I'm sure you will be able to find schools, clubs, etc. that you are familiar with in your area.  Good Luck... Wish I were there, I would relieve you of all your books!

  8. drop them off at the library

  9. Take them to the used book store and get credit, then don't spend the credit till after you move.

  10. Sell them, donate them, please, please don't throw them away!

In addition to everyone else's suggestions, you could also try websites like Paperback Swap or Book Mooch, or Book Crossing, which enables both book swapping and a cool program where you write a code into the inside cover of a book and leave it somewhere for someone to find. If they go to the website and type in the code, you can track your books on their journeys.

  11. Take the to the library. You can also give them to local schools depending in what you got.
