  1. GO TO A DOLLAR TREE WHERE EVERYTHING IS $1.OO. I KNOW THAT THEY'VE GOT THEM FROM PRE-K TO 3RD GRADE. I ALWAYS BUY ONE FOR MY KIDS CAUSE THEY LIKE DOING THEM.

  2. step one nothing was said about the ages of the children you will be caring for...thats important in the selection of the books.

when you are having 2yrs and younger most books need to be very short and those put out for the children to use should be of hardboard, plastic, or other sturdy washable materials and contain mostly "real" pictures of people, places, and things.

if you are working with 3-5 yrs old children the books can be of varing page textures and topics including animals, people, places and things, still including as many as possible "real" pictures(photos) but safely including a variety of cartoon or other drawn pictures. making sure  to include a variety of social studies topics on cultures other than your own.

older children than 5 yrs. like to have many more choices and longer books and it is important to include all of the above suggestions and make sure to watch for stereotyping or racisism, or other discriminatory materials.

great places to start making ideas for your collections are the lakeshore catalog or other learning material catalogs they have premade collections. another place is the library/librarian there a several books from which you can read the synopsis of the stories and know where to purchase the books too. another place to start collecting books are with the school book clubs like scholastic book clubs. and a good place to collect from are garage/yard sales, thrift stores, book sales at the library

  3. Dr. Seuss.

    The Bernstein Bears.

Arthur (and other books based on TV shows like that).

  4. My sons love Sandra Boynton she rhymes and has funny storys.  They also like the books that are touch and feel with the fur or fabric on each animal.  Books with favorite characters...Elmo, Barney, Pooh, The Wiggles.  Baby Einstien is really good.  I also like their flash cards.  Really, just go to any store and look for good pictures, rhyming, and get mostly board books.

    Good luck
