Books similar to a child called it?

I'm REALLY picky with books and there are only a few books that i've read that i actually liked.

for ex. these books:

-a child called it by dave pelzer

-hanging onto max by margaret bechard

-the first part last by angela johnson

& currently I'm reading the lost boy (the sequel to a child called it)

Have you read Flowers for Algernon? Its an older book but similarly themed.

Books by Torey Hayden are AMAZING! I was just like you (picky) when I was younger, and still am a bit, and I went through a phase reading books like "A Child Called It". I found Torey Hayden and fell in love with her books. The two books I really like of hers are "One Child" and "Tiger's Child". Have fun reading :)
