  1. There are a lot of good books but some of it certainly depends on the age of your child. One thing is that children are a lot wiser about death than grown-ups are and also than grown-ups give them credit for being. Kids, until about 7 years old, just naturally understand death and don't have anywhere near all the issues that older kids and most adults have about the subject. One thing that I think is really critical is that their questions be answered honestly and openly -- and beyond that they just need to be able to express their feelings and be listened to. There's a book called "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant which is fabulous. (There's Cat Heaven too which is probably just as good but I'm more a dog person so I like that one better)There's also one called "Learning to Say Good-bye" by Eda LeShan. It's out of print but is available used online. It is excellent. "I'll Always Love You" is another one that uses a dog as the main character, and it's good as well. Another one is called "The 10th Good Thing About Barney."

  2. well, i dont think u should get a book, explain that death is when someone life is done and they go up to heaven but theyre bodies stay here, and we all die but its nothing to be scrared of. if they are too young dont take it to seriously or too far. if you give them a book its make them scared. take an example from a cartoon they like or something. if they are younger than 5 dont be too rash

  3. Funeral homes have booklets on this subject. We bought one when we lost our baby girl so our 2 year-old son would understand what was going on. It helped us a few months later when my father in law passed away.

  4. If it's for the death of a pet, get "When a Pet Dies" by Fred Rogers (yes, Mr. Rogers).  It is excellent and written for small children...I would say age 3-7.  It has no religious references whatsoever, which is what appealed to me.

  5. Maria Shriver has a book called Whats Heaven that is good
