  1. One book I really enjoyed reading, and which helped me in learning to fly, was Langewiesche's "Stick and Rudder".

There are many, many good books, but this one was enjoyable, simple, and direct.

    Good luck with your flying!

  2. Gliem's Private Pilot book and the FAA Airplane Flying Manual will teach you everything you need to know.

Also, the FAA AFM has pictures!

  3. I can recommend several that will teach you about flying, and will also teach you about the romance of flight.

I hope every student pilot gets these books and keeps them in their flying library.

    1.  Stick and Rudder: An Explanation of the Art of Flying

    by Wolfgang Langewiesche

A bible for tailwheel pilots and a timeless classic.

    2. Anyone Can Fly

    by Jules Bergman

Great book about learning to fly.

    3. A Gift of Wings

    by Richard Bach

Collection of short stories from one of the best aviation writers!

    4. Zero 3 Bravo: Solo Across America in a Small Plane

    by Mariana Gosnell

A great book about cross country flight.

  4. Depends on which book your PPC course use.

Most use either ASA or Jeppeson Private Pilot Manuel, with both being almost identical in layout and information.

Required reading for a PPC is

    ASA/Jeppeson Private Pilot Manual

FAR/AIM sections 1,61,91, NTSB 830, and the new TSA section, and the AIM throughly

Gliem Private Pilot Written study guide

    FAA- Airplane flying handbook

FAA- Pilots handbook of Aeronatuical knowledge

    FAA- Weather

    FAA Practial test standards.

    Recommeded in addition to these

FAA-Instrument flying handbook- this provides a better in-depth study of instruments and IFR- useful even at the private level

A weather theory book- this goes indepth of the study weather fronts and systems, way beyond the FAA.

FARs Explained- this gives a good explaination for the FARs.

    Aircraft systems for pilots

Gliem manuever guide- provides good illustrations and tips for maneuvers.

*** and for anyone wanting to be a pilot, required reading is Fate is the Hunter***

There is alot of other books, and all help, but all in all, provide the same information, depends on how much money you want to spend, such as stick and rudder, 100 hamburger, and any Rod Machao's books.
