Boom And Bust to defend his Mile title at Goodwood
Trainer Marcus Tregoning wants his 5-year-old gelding, Boom And Bust, to defend his title in this year’s Betfred Mile (Heritage Handicap) at Goodwood. Sponsored by Totesport, the class 2 handicap saw him securing a close triumph last season.
The Jas Singh-owned will come out in a bid to become the first dual champion of the Goodwood challenge, scheduled to take place on August 3rd. The Lambourn trainer will be represented by another dashing runner, Bronze Angel, who was third in the
Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.
The Heritage Handicap has attracted 70 entries and with two high profile representatives, Marcus Tregoning has a good chance of collecting some prize in the valuable handicap, which has been a crucial part of the sport since 1987.
Boom And Bust did a very fine job last year. Winning four of the five races shows how good form he was in last season. Prior to his wonderful success at Goodwood, the son of Footstepsinthesand sealed three comprehensive victories respectively at Bath, Newbury
and Redcar.
He is yet to show anything special this season. He was awful on his seasonal debut at Royal Ascot, where he finished 16th behind Prince Of Johanne in the Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) last month.
On the other hand, Bronze Angel has registered two classy victories this season. Ahead of his third place at Ascot, the 3-year-old clinched a convincing win at Doncaster, grabbing the first rank in the Frenchgate First For Fashion Handicap.
"Boom And Bust won the race last year and we would love to go back there with him again, while Bronze Angel is a rapidly improving three-year-old, so it's possible both of them could run. With Boom And Bust it has been a target race for him as he appeared
to act on the track last year and they normally get the ground right at Goodwood,” Tregoning said.
He continued: "He wasn't quite right after last year's race so I gave him a long break and he ran well for a long way in the Royal Hunt Cup (when 16th of the 30 runners)."
