According to a credible source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it has been revealed that PCB Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
The source revealed that Butt held a lengthy discussion with PCB’s Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed after his meeting with the team management. The talk within the Board right now suggests that Afridi has succeeded in keeping his captaincy intact, though
Butt personally is not in favour of it.
The source confirmed, “Butt himself is not in favour of having Afridi as captain and is inclined towards http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 wants Misbah as the skipper. However, after getting all the feedback and suggestions, the PCB chief knows that it would
be a risky affair to change the ODI captain at this stage."
According to reports coming from New Zealand, senior players, including Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar, Abdul Razzaq and pacer Umar Gul have expressed support for the current skipper. This has made the sacking of Boom Boom Afridi even difficult for the
chairman.
“Definitely, Afridi is not Butt’s favourite for captaincy but the team management has told Butt not to change the captain for the World Cup at this stage. The PCB Chairman has a difficult decision to make because he has to ensure there are no issues or conflicts
within the team before the World Cup," the source said.
Earlier this month the PCB created a big controversy by deciding to delay naming the captain of the 15-member World Cup squad. Last week it was reported that the Board was planning to sack Afridi as the captain of the national team in favour of Misbah.
The Board invited criticism from all quarters for the delay. Veterans such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 and Moin Khan advised the Board to stick with Afridi until the World Cup. The seniors also cautioned the Board to avoid giving a chance to politics. They feared that
the team might then divide into groups. This has happened in the past in Pakistan cricket and there is no reason why it can’t happen again if Afridi is dethroned.
