Boom or bust, QB Joe Flacco holds the key to Baltimore Ravens’ success – NFL Feature
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has found new life of form, as his numbers of the season so far reflect. So the player has justified the team’s choice of paying some attention towards the offence and particularly towards the offence leader.
The Ravens have traditionally been a total defence-dependant side. Flacco has performed well but in slots over past four years. This has helped the side to be through to playoffs and beyond at four successive occasions. They could not go further for the
reason their total defensive strategy failed them at crucial stages in all four those seasons.
It has inspired the side to come out of the traditional mindset to make some commitments on the offensive line. First thing they did this year was to hire a fulltime coach for quarterbacks. The hiring is no other than the most successful offensive coach
Jim Caldwell. He has trained the most successful QB in the league Peyton Manning and a few more players.
At the time of his arrival in Baltimore, Jim had said he did not want Flacco to be another Peyton Manning. This raised many eyebrows in the city. The team’s fans were not much pleased. The coach, however, clarified that Flacco has immense talent and can
become an even better offence leader. He went on to explain that all quarterbacks need different training and grooming strategies. Jim said he will have a different plan for the star performer altogether.
Since then Caldwell has shown to live up to his promise. He did not show through lip-service again, but let the player’s performance speak for itself. Flacco has gone robust since playing into the run-focused strategy of Jim Caldwell, which the quarterback
is thoroughly enjoying.
So the player has found himself in prime form, guided by Caldwell. The question is how far he can go, and how consistent he can be, because it is not just a matter of numbers in a few games, he has to be consistent throughout, and if he does so, the Ravens
must prepare themselves for Super Bowl title game this year.
Again, Flacco’s coach is confident of his trainee. He has spoken high of him at many occasions. His words are backed by the player’s performance. Thanks to the QB’s superb form, the Ravens are atop American Football Conference (AFC) North division.
So, overall Flacco has done remarkably well so far. As long as Flacco shows promise to grow no one can stop him and the Ravens can reach all the heights in the league this season.
